Why the old players are not restored
Many early web videos were delivered as WMV, ASX or embedded third-party players. The files and interviews remain copyrighted even when the original player no longer works.
What can be preserved safely
File names, route patterns, publication dates and credited participants can help identify material. Actual footage should be embedded or republished only with permission from the relevant rights holder.
