Not every MP3 was a finished single
Files posted by a regional outlet might have been radio premieres, freestyles, advance versions, DJ edits or deliberately tagged promos. Treating every surviving filename as a canonical release creates bad discographies.
Record the container
When documenting a file, note the show or mixtape, host, date, stated production credit, file name and the page where it appeared. The context can be more historically useful than the bitrate.
Respect rights and uncertainty
A dead download link does not make the recording public domain. Preserve metadata and lawful citations; do not mirror copyrighted audio simply because the former host disappeared.
Good archive habit: distinguish “announced,” “streamed,” “downloadable,” and “commercially released.” They are not the same claim.
