Oh what you ain’t know?
We started this West Coast Ryda shit, and this the muthafuckin thanks we get?
Yessir, since way back in
2003 we were hittin the streets with nothing more than a handheld cam, a crazy grind and connections to every notable up and coming West Coast rapper.
With a staff of less than 5 people and a love for the music and culture California represents, we built an entire promotional network up from the ground and revolutionized the way rap gets covered in Cali. We weren’t tripping off the big names, we had our ear to what was popping in every ‘hood and linked up with and presented a lot of today’s rising LA and Bay Area rappers before anybody else was messing with them.
At a time when coverage of the new wave of West Coast talent was virtually non-existent or based in other countries through phone and text interviews, we hit the studios, blocks, clubs and events with our cameras and brought exclusive video interviews straight from LA and the Bay into homes across the world. At our peak we were among the top hip-hop sites period, especially those covering West Coast rap. Our stuff was buzzing heavy
without the help of Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and everything else everybody crazy about today.
Just like everything else in life though, most travels aren’t without their bumps, and we’ve had our share. Ownership of the site has changed hands a few times, there’s been downtime and we’ve had to start over, minus some of the original staff. But none of that has stopped what inspired us to do this in the first place, which is an appreciation and belief in talented Cali artists.
Like we said at the beginning though, I’m sure there’s some out there that ain’t really knowing how much we’ve done. It’s aite though, that won’t stop us. To those out there who been loving what we’ve done and continue to do, we’ve heard you asking for some of our classic videos and we appreciate the support, so we decided to open up the
WCR vaults.
Shouts to all the artists who took part in this classic material and everybody who always stayed down. To everyone who don't believe in WCR no more or who talks slick, keep doing what you do, we built this shit without y'all and will stay keepin it moving forward.
Chuuch.
